For my final degree show project, it was a space for me to reflect on my experiences as a Queer Scottish Born Cantonese Chinese and to challenge the idea that identity needs to be clear and consistent. Exploring how we emotionally and physically customise ourselves to feel safe, something I have done most of my life, Through visuals, text and physical media that I crafted myself, I created a world where in-between feelings could exist without needing to be resolved, offering a space for underrepresented queer POC in Scotland to feel seen and held. I have always been drawn to the ways identity is constructed, not as something fixed or easily defined, but as something that is deeply layered. As someone who exists within both queer and diasporic contexts, I often feel a tension between visibility and erasure, between wanting to be seen authentically and navigating systems that expect any form of coherence and categorisation.
I wanted this project to be a space for me to explore this, to push the boundaries and the idea that identity has to be legible or linear.
